It's my passion to help people off couches, accomplishing things they never thought were possible. I've been coaching for 30 years — people of all ages, shapes and sizes. The key is not to do too much too fast too soon. Recently named SportBC's 2019 Female Coach of the Year, I am perhaps best known as one of Canada's National Team Coaches preparing athletes for competition at the highest level… and as SportMedBC's InTraining Coach, preparing thousands of people to complete the Vancouver Sun Run. I also have the privilege of coaching up-and-coming young athletes as the middle-distance running coach at Ocean Athletics in my hometown of White Rock BC.

I am perhaps best known for my Bronze medal performance at the LA Olympic Games in 1984, when all eyes were on the American sweetheart Mary Decker, who collided with a little South African girl named Zola Budd. The American never finished the race, and I snuck in there to take the Bronze medal. I've held every Canadian record for middle distance from 1000m to 10K on the roads and have held the 10K road record since 1985.
I've enjoyed off-shoots of my running career in my professional life as a business owner, television analyst, motivational speaker, personal, corporate and athletics trainer/coach. I've been excited to apply my expertise in Performance Athletics as both Provincial and National Team Coach, headed towards Tokyo 2021.
My passion for over 30 years has been to inspire people of all ages and ability levels through physical fitness; to take steps toward better health, achieve personal goals, and be active and happy. Proudest accomplishment: No contest! 4 wonderful children!

Utilizing a running action to stay afloat in deep water
I've had every injury in the book. As an Olympic runner, having to take 6-8 weeks off is not good news. I tried everything to keep my fitness. Swimming and cycling kept me strong and fit, but not specific to running. I became a pioneer in the evolution of deep water running: If your technique is correct, it is like a strength training workout specific to the way you run. Simultaneously the water has a massage effect while you become stronger and recover from impact.
