It's my passion to help people off couches, accomplishing things they never thought were possible. I've been coaching for 20 years — people of all ages, shapes and sizes. The key is not to do too much too fast too soon. I am best known as SportMedBC's RunWalk Coach, preparing thousands of people to complete the Vancouver Sun Run. I've had every injury in the book. As an Olympic runner, having to take 6-8 weeks off is not good news. I tried everything to keep my fitness. Swimming and cycling kept me strong and fit, but not specific to running. I became a pioneer in the evolution of deep water running: If your technique is correct, it is like a strength training workout specific to the way you run. Simultaneously the water has a massage effect while you become stronger and recover from impact.

Nordic Walking originated in Finland as a way to stay fit in summer for cross country skiing in winter. It's a fantastic way to enhance your walking experience, engaging the upper body and core, burning more calories, improving posture, and upping the "fun" meter — I love it!
